The Leopold FC660C Mechanical Keyboard on a Mac

When I committed myself to maintaining a blog, I realized I would need to find a keyboard that was meant for a ton of typing – enter the Leopold FC660C. It’s the next best (and very different) thing to the keyboard on my MacBook Pro, both of which have their upsides and downsides.

The Ars Electronica Center in Linz, Austria

The Ars Electronica Center in Linz, Austria saw its influence expand greatly back in 2009, interactivity and human appendages-as-input devices were all the rage, and people were actually working hard at realizing the future and making profoundly cool and interesting and unique experiences that revolved around gestural interaction with digital devices or within digital environments. This was largely an outgrowth of the first iPhone which had just been released (en-masse) about a year earlier.

Rover Thoughts: Smog Check Update –> FAILED!

Well I certainly didn’t expect this lovely 2006 Range Rover Sport with 126,000 miles to fail its first smog check since I got it. It turns out it failed on a technicality: finicky cruise control that triggered a check-engine light. While the vehicle passed its emissions and leakage tests, unfortunately, I had experienced a check-engine light when, for some odd reason, the vehicle’s cruise control feature decided to go belly-up.

Movie Thoughts: Solo – A Star Wars Story was GREAT!

Ok I’m baffled at the bad press surrounding Solo: A Star Wars story. It was great. I absolutely loved it and I have to say that I’m really liking this whole Star Wars Anthology approach to things.

Thought Thoughts: I’ve given it some thought and…

Time for some morning thoughts! Okay, I’ve thoughtsed, I’m going to try to resurrect the content from my original 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea fan site that I built as a teenager at this domain twenty years ago.

Movie Thoughts: Deadpool 2 was Meta-Fantastic

Mind you, I may be a little biased  toward Deadpool as I think all the X-movies have risen to the occasion and been better than I had expected they would be going in.

Coffee Thoughts: BLVD CAFECITO – My Other New Coffee Stop

BLVD Cafecito is my other coffee-go-to in Magnolia park, in addition to my recently-discovered stop, The Palm. Also, we’re adding a new category: Coffee Thoughts…which means another category is inevitable: Beer Thoughts.

Rover Thoughts: So Far, Bertram’s Doing Okay…

Well, if I’m being completely honest, Bertram the Range Rover Sport L320 doing only okay in terms of reliability and cost. If you want to look at the RoverLog Spreadsheet, you can see that since purchasing Bertram in March of 2018, I’ve spent a $5,500 on it (in round numbers). But that total doesn’t necessarily tell the whole story.

Geek Thoughts: San Diego Comic-Con 2018

You know how there are things nearby you that you never do because they’re nearby you and so you figure you can do them any time but then one day you’re on your deathbed and realized you never did those things, well, for me that was San Diego Comic-Con, almost.

StudioADI Amalgamated Dynamics Inc

Touring the Creature Effects Shop StudioADI

When I was 12, I attended a showbiz expo in LA where one of the exhibitors was Cinefex Magazine. Their current issue showcased the work of two incredibly talented effects artists, Alec Gillis and Tom Woodruff Jr. and their company Amalgamated Dynamics Inc.’s work on David Fincher’s Alien3. I still have that issue of Cinefex and have been fans of their exceptional practical effects work since. In 2018, they opened their facility for a small tour and I got to see firsthand the scope of their incredible work in person, including pieces that figured prominently in Alien3. It was a pilgrimage to say the least and an experience I’ll never forget.

Rover Thoughts: The RoverLog is Live!

The RoverLog will be the central repository of all relevant data I can think of with regards to maintaining, servicing, and repairing the 2006 Land Rover Range Rover Sport L320 I bought in 2018 with 126,000 miles on the odometer. I hope this log serves to entertain, inform and educate on just what a high mileage vehicle like this needs to stay running. I fully recognize that this Rover is going to need work. It’s no spring chicken, but I love it. This is an objective log of the TLC it will get from here on out. For further info, an explanation of the spreadsheet is included in the spreadsheet as well.
